Prof. Hapgood received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2000 from the University of Queensland for her thesis entitled on Nucleation and Binder Dispersion in Wet Granulation which was supervised by Professor Jim Litster. After completing her Ph.D. work, Assoc. Prof. Hapgood joined Merck & Co where she worked for 5 years designing and scaling up and troubleshooting manufacturing processes for tablets and capsules.

In 2006 she began her current position at Monash University, as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, where she continues to investigate granulation and particle processing. She has won several awards including the 2006 “AAPS New Investigator Award in Pharmaceutics and the Pharmaceutical Sciences” award, a 2010 “ALTC Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning” and a 2011 ADC Australian Leadership award. She a member of the International Steering Committee for the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients, the Editorial Board of Advanced Powder Technology journal, and a member of the Therapeutic Goods Committee in Australia.
